After going into remission in 2017, Doherty declined the treatment option of Tamoxifen, a drug shown to reduce the chance of breast cancer in high-risk women, as she believed she was already in menopause and wouldn't be doing IVF anymore.
Doherty's cancer returned and developed to stage IV, with the disease metastasizing to her bones and brain in 2023.
