- The Japan Meteorological Agency located the epicenter near Amami Oshima with a very shallow focus and an estimated magnitude of 5.6.
- Maximum shaking of shindo 4 was observed in Tokunoshima Town, Amagi Town, and Isen Town.
- Weaker shaking reached parts of Kagoshima and Okinawa, including shindo 3 in Wadomari, China, and Setouchi and shindo 2–1 across numerous other municipalities.
