Shallow 2.3 Microsismo Jolts Western Mexico City as SSN Logs Southern Moderate Quakes

The city’s alert stayed off due to the event’s shallow, nearby origin below activation thresholds.

Overview

  • The SSN reported a magnitude 2.3 quake at 07:49 local time with epicenter in Álvaro Obregón at 0 km depth, felt as a brief jolt in areas such as Mixcoac, Las Águilas, Guadalupe Inn and Santa Fe.
  • C5 CDMX and SkyAlert confirmed no activation of the public seismic alert and began monitoring, with no injuries or structural damage reported.
  • UNAM researchers have linked recurring west-side microsismos to the local Plateros‑Mixcoac fault, which produces very shallow events that can feel sharp near the epicenter.
  • Separately overnight, the SSN logged a magnitude 4.5 quake 46 km northwest of Matías Romero, Oaxaca, and a 4.3 southwest of Pijijiapan, Chiapas, without damage reports.
  • Earlier on Nov. 26, multiple magnitude 4.1–4.5 events were recorded off Michoacán and in Chiapas, and authorities urged routine preparedness and attention to official channels.
