The appointment was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet and announced on February 22, 2025.
Das's tenure as Principal Secretary-2 will align with the term of the prime minister or until further orders.
A retired IAS officer from the 1980 Tamil Nadu cadre, Das has over 42 years of experience in finance, taxation, and public administration.
He is recognized for steering India through economic challenges during his RBI tenure, including the COVID-19 pandemic and global disruptions.
