Overview
- A Shahed-type drone hit the central park in Nova Vodolaha on Monday, Oct. 19, killing six people and injuring about 15 others, including seven children.
- Among the dead were primary school teacher Inna Mariukhna and her one-year-old daughter Anhelina, and the local Novovodolazskyi Lyceum No. 1 issued a public statement mourning the loss.
- Ukrainian officials and President Volodymyr Zelensky identified the weapon as a Shahed drone and said the strike struck a crowded area where families were present.
- Zelensky condemned the attack as a 'pure atrocity' and used it to press for stronger air-defence systems and for continued sanctions on Russia.
- The strike adds to a string of drone attacks on civilian areas and is likely to increase Kyiv’s appeals to Western partners for more air-defence aid and sustained political pressure on Moscow.
