Overview
- Fire broke out on June 22 in a fryer on Shababs’ first floor and was doused by three fire engines from West Midlands Fire and Rescue Service.
- Brave passersby smashed windows with rocks and brought a ladder to rescue trapped staff, including one worker who was hospitalized for smoke inhalation and burns.
- Four other individuals were treated for smoke inhalation at the scene and discharged after paramedic checks.
- Owner Zaf Hussain said the incident worsened when a water-based extinguisher was used on an oil fire but that the ground-floor dining area remained largely intact.
