SFPD Recovers Stolen 1979 Porsche, Weapons and Meth in Richmond District Raid

Police say the probe grew from a stolen trailer report to a broader case, with tips requested.

Overview

  • Detectives served a warrant at a home on the 500 block of 32nd Avenue and found a 1979 Porsche 911 SC reported stolen in 2021 with a switched VIN and an engine from a separately stolen 1978 Porsche 911 Targa.
  • Officers seized six handguns, five rifles that included four assault weapons, multiple silencers, ammunition and more than one pound of methamphetamine.
  • Police arrested John Richard Choy, 61, on suspicion of 11 counts of felon in possession of a firearm, possession of assault weapons and silencers, methamphetamine for sale, receiving stolen property and burglary tools.
  • The search followed the September 18 discovery of a stolen, partially stripped 1989 Yamaha FZR400 motorcycle outside the residence under investigation.
  • The case originated with a May report of a construction trailer theft worth about $70,000 that was recovered in June, and SFPD says the investigation remains active with a request for public tips to its hotline or TIP411.
