Overview

  • Officials discovered high E. coli levels near Camp Richardson Resort on Friday linked to a sewage leak now under repair.
  • U.S. Forest Service is advising beachgoers, boaters, paddlers and swimmers to avoid waters from Jameson Beach to Valhalla Boathouse in South Lake Tahoe.
  • No illnesses have been reported and additional water samples will be tested east and west of the site to determine further precautions.
  • Other tested areas of Lake Tahoe have not shown elevated bacteria levels, and advisory signs will be removed once water safety is confirmed.
  • Last month Caltrans and North Tahoe Public Utility District paid an $850,000 fine for a contractor-caused sewage spill that prompted bacterial warnings at the lake’s north shore.
