Severe Weather Disrupts Northern India: Heavy Rainfall and Snowfall Reported

The India Meteorological Department issues red and orange alerts for Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir, respectively, as adverse conditions persist.

Several parts of Delhi and the wider northern region of India, including Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, have experienced significant weather disruptions due to heavy rainfall and snowfall.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Himachal Pradesh and an orange alert for Jammu and Kashmir, indicating severe weather conditions that are expected to continue until February 21, 2024.
The adverse weather has led to the closure of key highways and roads, including the Srinagar-Jammu highway, due to mudslides, and interstate highways passing through Bhaderwah in Jammu and Kashmir.
In Himachal Pradesh, over 228 roads, including four national highways, have been closed due to snowfall, affecting transportation and daily life.
The weather conditions have been attributed to two Western Disturbances, causing widespread snowfall and rainfall across the northern region, with potential for hailstorms and thunderstorms.
