A slow-moving front tapping an Atlantic moisture corridor is fueling dangerous downpours through Nov. 25.

Overview

  • São Paulo’s Civil Defense warns of strong storms from Nov. 23–25 with very high rainfall accumulations in the Vale do Paraíba, Litoral Norte, Serra da Mantiqueira, Baixada Santista and the metro area, citing risks of floods, landslides, lightning, strong winds and hail.
  • In Rio de Janeiro state, Sunday’s storms brought hail in Santo Antônio de Pádua, street flooding and a gym roof collapse in Itaocara with no injuries reported, while the city of Rio forecasts moderate to strong showers with wind gusts into Tuesday.
  • Bahia continues widespread monitoring after more than 90,000 lightning strikes in 48 hours and emergency decrees in at least three cities, with a new Inmet yellow alert covering 345 municipalities until 10 a.m. Monday for 20–30 mm/h rain and winds up to 60 km/h.
  • National Inmet advisories highlight 30–60 mm/h rain and 60–100 km/h gusts, including a storm alert for the Campinas region valid to 10 a.m. Monday, while 45 cities in southwest Piauí face a concurrent alert for up to 30 mm/h rain and 60 km/h winds.
  • Other areas remain on alert such as Santa Catarina for hail and power-disruption risk, and Petrópolis placed operations in Observation status after issuing SMS alerts for moderate to strong rain with lightning and gusts.
