Overview
- Severe Tropical Storm Wutip made its second landfall near Leizhou City in Guangdong Province at around 00:30 local time on June 14.
- Wutip first struck Hainan’s Dongfang area on June 13, dumping a record 565.7 mm of rain in Sanya and canceling 139 flights at Haikou Meilan International Airport.
- Before reaching China, the storm caused widespread flooding across central Vietnam, killing at least four people and inundating tens of thousands of homes and rice fields.
- Authorities in Guangdong evacuated over 10,000 residents, closed schools and suspended flights, trains and ferries; Hong Kong’s Observatory raised a No. 3 typhoon warning as Wutip’s outer bands approached.
- Wutip is forecast to continue moving northeast at 25–30 km/h, bringing heavy to torrential rain and flash flood risks to provinces including Guangxi, Hunan and Jiangxi.
