Overview

  • The severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect for B.C.’s Southern Interior, covering regions such as the Okanagan, Thompson, Nicola, Shuswap, Similkameen, Boundary and Fraser Canyon.
  • Heavy rain and wind earlier in the storm caused the collapse of a canopy at Kelowna’s Greenery Garden Centre and sparked a fire on Knox Mountain.
  • Environment Canada forecasts total rainfall of 20 to 40 millimetres, with moderate rain expected to continue through Saturday.
  • Snow levels are forecast to drop to 1,200–1,600 metres on mountain passes, with up to four centimetres of accumulation possible at Pennask and Coquihalla summits.
  • Drivers are advised to slow down, use headlights and watch for localized flooding, water pooling and landslides on vulnerable roads.
