Severe Storms and Snow Forecast Across Germany This Weekend

The German Weather Service warns of heavy winds, rain, and snowfall, with potential disruptions in several regions.

  • North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) faces strong winds with gusts reaching up to 90 km/h, prompting closures of some Christmas markets, including in Cologne.
  • Heavy rainfall is expected across much of Germany, with snowfall predicted in higher elevations such as the Bavarian Alps, Erzgebirge, and Sauerland regions.
  • The Deutsche Wetterdienst (DWD) has issued warnings for severe weather, advising residents to secure loose objects and exercise caution outdoors due to risks of falling branches and flying debris.
  • In Bavaria, the snowline is expected to drop to 600 meters by Sunday, with up to 25 cm of snow possible in alpine areas, raising concerns about localized flooding along rivers and streams.
  • Berlin, Brandenburg, and other northern regions will experience milder conditions with rain and gusty winds, while temperatures across the country will range from 2°C to 11°C.
