Severe Storms and Flash Floods Threaten Central and Southern Arizona This Evening

- SPC Severe Thunderstorm Watch 621 remains in effect from 1 to 8 p.m. MDT for central and southern Arizona with threats of hail up to 2 inches, 70 mph gusts and a low tornado probability.
- WPC warns that expanding clusters are producing rainfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour with localized totals of 2 to 4 inches, making scattered to numerous flash floods likely in central and southeast Arizona.
- Forecasters highlight the highest near-term risk in Pinal and Gila counties and note vulnerabilities in urban areas, dry washes and burn scars including around Phoenix, Tucson and Safford.
- SPC mesoscale updates report several storms with large hail and strong outflow winds, with organized severe potential continuing into the evening before diminishing as the warm sector is overturned.
- WPC also flags flash-flood potential spreading into southeast Nevada, eastern California, southwest Utah and northwest Arizona with cells capable of 1 to 1.5 inches per hour.
