Overview
- India is witnessing the menace of twin cyclones brewing over the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal simultaneously; the storm in the Bay of Bengal, named Cyclone Hamoon by Iran, has intensified into a 'severe' cyclonic storm.
- The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued rainfall warnings in several states, including heavy rainfall predictions for parts of Odisha and West Bengal; light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds is also predicted for Kerala, Mizoram, and Tripura from October 23rd-25th.
- Cyclone Hamoon is expected to weaken gradually as it moves northeastwards, crossing the Bangladesh coast on the evening of the 25th with wind speeds of 65-75 kmph.
- Fishermen have been warned to avoid venturing into the West-central Bay of Bengal till October 25th and the North Bay of Bengal till October 26th due to turbulent sea conditions caused by the cyclone.
