Severe Cold Wave Grips Parts of Madhya Pradesh as Bhopal Drops to 8.4°C. IMD

IMD says cold, dry winds from Himalayan snowfall will drive a further fall in night temperatures.

Overview

  • IMD reported severe cold-wave conditions in Bhopal, Rajgarh, Indore and Shajapur, with cold-wave conditions also in Sehore and Rewa.
  • Night temperatures fell by 2°C to 3.6°C across several divisions, with the state’s lowest at 7.4°C in Rajgarh and Girwar and a further 1°C to 2°C drop likely in the next 24 hours.
  • Statewide conditions remain clear and dry with no rainfall expected, as northwest-to-north winds hold daytime highs mostly in the upper 20s to low 30s Celsius.
  • Bhopal recorded 28.8°C during the day and 8.4°C at night, while Jabalpur’s minimum hit 12°C with the chill arriving roughly a week earlier than usual.
  • Weather officials warn the early, intensifying pattern could usher in one of the colder winters in recent years, and farmers have been advised to proceed with sowing of wheat, gram and mustard.
