Severe Cold Wave and Heavy Snowfall Predicted Across India

Dense fog conditions and health concerns rise as temperatures drop and pollution persists in Delhi.

• Western disturbance to bring two bouts of cold wave in the western Himalayan region from January 28 and another from January 31, impacting the plains of Northwest India.
• Snowfall predicted over Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, with moderate to widespread rainfall or snowfall expected from January 29 until February 1.
• Rainfall expected over Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh from January 31 until February 2 due to the western disturbance.
• Dense to very dense fog conditions predicted in several states including Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Bihar until January 31, reducing visibility.
• Delhi's cold weather and persistent pollution leading to health problems, with an increase in hospital admissions for children and elderly people due to chest infections and pneumonia.
