Overview
- The ADAC warns that travelers on Friday afternoons during the first holiday wave (July 11–13) can expect “snail’s pace” conditions on NRW’s autobahns.
- The Auto Club Europa has issued a “traffic jam alarm” for the July 11–13 weekend, forecasting heavy gridlock on routes to coastal and Alpine destinations.
- To avoid the worst delays, the ADAC recommends starting vacations on Mondays or Tuesdays or travelling outside rush hours, such as early mornings or evenings.
- The ADAC identifies the A1, A2, A3 and A4 as the main bottlenecks in North Rhine-Westphalia and advises drivers to stay on autobahns unless jams exceed ten kilometres or there’s a full closure.
- Spuratic border checks at Suben (A3), Walserberg (A8) and Kiefersfelden (A93), together with ongoing roadworks, may add further waiting times for cross-border travellers.
