Severe Air Quality Triggers Stage-III Anti-Pollution Measures in Delhi-NCR

The restrictions, including a ban on construction and certain vehicle operations, aim to prevent further deterioration of air quality amid unfavorable climatic conditions.

  • Anti-pollution measures under Stage-III of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) have been enforced across Delhi-NCR due to a sudden deterioration in air quality.
  • The restrictions include a ban on construction and demolition activities, operations in stone crushers, and all mining and related activities.
  • Strict restrictions have been imposed on the use of BS III petrol and BS IV diesel Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) in Delhi and the districts of Gurugram, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, and Gautam Budh Nagar.
  • The Air Quality Index (AQI) across Delhi has dipped into the 'severe' category, largely due to unfavorable climatic conditions such as very low wind speed, rise in moisture levels, low mixing heights and local pollution sources.
  • The decision to invoke GRAP Stage-III is aimed at preventing further deterioration of air quality in the region.
