Overview

  • On July 31, a seven-year-old boy slipped into an uncovered Municipal Corporation of Delhi sewer near Shiv Mandir in Rajokri while playing in the rain.
  • Vasant Kunj South police joined forces with Delhi Fire Service, DDMA, NDRF divers and MCD sanitation workers to remove sewage and dig up the drain with JCB machinery.
  • The absence of an early missing-person complaint and unclear identity prolonged search efforts beyond 24 hours.
  • Subsequent CCTV analysis showed the boy crawling out of an open section about 20 metres from where he fell and returning home unharmed.
  • A local school teacher identified him as a Class 3 student and he was safely reunited with his family as authorities review sewer safety without filing any criminal charges.
