Overview

  • Shortly before 2 a.m. Saturday, an unknown vehicle opened fire on a large gathering at West 78th Place near St. Sabina Church, injuring seven males aged 17 to 19.
  • Six victims sustained non-life-threatening wounds to their arms, legs, backs or buttocks and were listed in fair condition; one 18-year-old remains in serious condition with chest and leg gunshot wounds.
  • No suspects have been arrested in the drive-by shooting, prompting Father Michael Pfleger to offer a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
  • Around 2:10 a.m., officers on the Northwest Side shot and critically wounded a 28-year-old man after he allegedly struck an officer with his pickup truck while attempting to flee following a nearby shooting.
  • Both incidents are under review by the Chicago Police Department and the Civilian Office of Police Accountability as detectives seek to establish motive and accountability.
