Seven Major Bitcoin Mining Pools Join Stratum V2 Working Group

The move signals momentum toward an encrypted, miner-driven standard for Bitcoin pool communications.

Overview

  • Seven pools — AntPool, F2Pool, Foundry, MARA Foundation, SpiderPool, DMND, and Block Inc. — joined the Stratum V2 working group to push a common upgrade for pool–miner coordination.
  • Stratum V2 replaces the decade-old V1 with encrypted links and gives individual miners the option to build block templates, which means miners can choose which transactions to include.
  • The new members account for a large share of global hashrate, which makes broad rollout more likely than past attempts to update mining communication.
  • The Stratum V2 project says faster messaging and lighter data can raise miner profits by up to 7.4%, though gains depend on actual deployment by pools, miners, and hardware.
  • Rising power costs and older machines under pressure make small efficiency wins valuable for operators who are trying to keep rigs running profitably.
