• The Iowa High School Athletic Association says seven programs have either canceled or paused varsity play this fall, with most in the eight-player class.
• Lone Tree, Rockford and Dunkerton canceled before playing; Siouxland Christian ended its season after a 60-0 halftime deficit led to a forfeit in its opener.
• Remsen-St. Mary's, last season's eight-player champion, paused after injuries led to forfeits on Sept. 12 and Sept. 19 and roughly 11 available players, with a roster check set for Sept. 22.
• Highland (Riverside) paused in Class A after its healthy roster fell from 21 to 13, and coach Cory Quail resigned to press for a shutdown, with a possible Sept. 26 return at Danville reported.
• Mormon Trail also paused with the option to resume later this fall, and schedule gaps have prompted replacements such as a neutral-site Fremont-Mills vs. WACO game after Lone Tree's cancellation.
