Seven Held as Police Hunt 19-Year-Old in Seaham Petrol Station Murder Probe

Detectives urge witnesses to share CCTV or dashcam footage, saying there is no wider risk to the public.

  • A man in his 20s died after a vehicle struck a pedestrian on the forecourt of the Asda Express/Esso station on Stockton Road around 4.50pm on January 15.
  • Seven people are in custody, including three male teenagers and a man in his 50s arrested on suspicion of murder, plus a teenage girl and two women in their 40s held on suspicion of assisting an offender.
  • Police are seeking 19-year-old Ashton Anderson, described as about 5ft 10in with a slim build and short brown hair, and ask anyone who sees him to call 101 quoting incident 281 of January 15.
  • A large cordon remains for a third day with a blue forensic tent on the forecourt, a smashed shop window, and closures on Stockton Road between the petrol station and The Mallard pub.
  • Officers maintain an increased local presence and invite information or footage directly or via Crimestoppers as forensic examinations continue at the scene.
