Overview

  • Ten inmates escaped from Orleans Parish Jail on May 16, 2025, exploiting defective locks and a hole behind a toilet; three have since been recaptured.
  • The FBI and Louisiana State Police have increased rewards for tips, offering $5,000 and $12,000 respectively, as the remaining fugitives are deemed armed and dangerous.
  • Evidence suggests the escape was aided by insider assistance, with three jail employees suspended and an internal investigation underway.
  • A third of the jail’s security cameras, including those in the escape area, were inoperable, highlighting severe infrastructure deficiencies.
  • Public notification of the escape was delayed for nearly 10 hours, drawing criticism from officials and raising concerns about accountability and transparency.
