Overview

• A federal grand jury indicted seven men on conspiracy to commit kidnapping and obstruction in the Feb. 27 abduction of a Quincy resident.
• Five defendants were named — Brian Cardoso (“B”), 33; Marcus Castaldi (“Skino”), 29; Melvin Coleman (“Mel”), 34; Anthony Lima (“YT”), 37; and Samuel Alouidor, 27 — while two suspects remain unidentified and at large.
• Five are in custody after arrests by FBI Boston’s Violent Crimes Task Force, which officials said followed an investigation into what prosecutors described as barbaric conduct.
• Charging documents say masked assailants took the victim at gunpoint to a Saugus garage, beat and burned him, and used his phone to display the torture on video calls to demand ransom.
• Investigators report about $4,000 was taken from the victim and roughly $18,000 plus a Rolex from his spouse and an acquaintance; four defendants pleaded not guilty Tuesday, and Cardoso is scheduled to be arraigned on Sept. 23.
