Overview

  • Seven Los Angeles–area men have been indicted for allegedly stealing about $100 million in gold, diamonds, rubies, emeralds and luxury watches from a Brinks semitruck in July 2022.
  • Prosecutors say the suspects trailed the armored truck more than 300 miles from a San Mateo jewelry show to a Lebec rest stop before breaking in and seizing 24 bags of cargo.
  • Search warrants executed on June 16 recovered portions of the stolen collection, marking the first return of assets from the three-year-old theft.
  • Pablo Raul Lugo Larroig and Jeson Nelon Presilla Flores appeared in federal court on June 17, Jazael Padilla Resto remains in Arizona state prison awaiting transfer and four defendants are still at large.
  • Defendants also face charges in separate 2022 cargo thefts of Samsung electronics and Apple AirTags and could receive up to 20 years in prison for robbery counts plus additional terms for conspiracy and interstate theft.
