Overview

  • On July 13 in Akkalkot, Shivdharma Foundation activists led by BJP worker Deepak Kate intercepted Sambhaji Brigade president Pravin Gaikwad at a felicitation event and smeared black ink on his face over a naming dispute.
  • Solapur Rural Police booked seven individuals under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 115(2), 189(2), 190, 191(2) and 324(4) for rioting and assault, detained two prime accused including Deepak Kate and issued notices to the others pending further investigation.
  • Political leaders from the BJP, NCP, Congress and regional outfits decried the assault and urged the state government to invoke tougher provisions against the perpetrators.
  • Gaikwad blamed Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for a security lapse, described the ink attack as an ideological threat to progressive Maratha voices and refused formal state protection.
  • The Sambhaji Brigade has announced counter-protests across western Maharashtra and vowed a “befitting reply” to what it calls a politically backed act of intimidation.
