Seven Arrested Over Contract-Killing Plot Targeting Vasai Industrialist

The arrests follow police allegations that the plot sought to erase a roughly Rs 32 crore debt.

Overview

  • Two motorcycle-borne assailants shot Mohansingh Parmar outside his Vasai office on July 24, injuring his shoulder after the pistol jammed and one attacker struck him with the butt of the weapon.
  • Police said a joint probe by the Waliv detection branch and the Uttar Pradesh STF has arrested seven people, naming alleged mastermind Sagar Girish Bhanushali and the two accused shooters Sujit Pandey and Manoj Thathera.
  • Investigators allege the motive was financial: Parmar paid about Rs 32 crore in a share transaction and police say Bhanushali fell into heavy debt after market losses and allegedly paid roughly Rs 30 lakh to hire the attackers.
  • Detectives credited CCTV, call-detail records, technical intelligence and inter-state coordination for the breakthrough while the pistol used in the attack has not yet been traced to its source.
  • GSM Foils told the stock exchange its plants continue to run and its shares hit the 20% lower circuit after the news, and police say legal charge proceedings and wider forensic and financial probes are ongoing.
