Seven Arrested in Violent San Jose Jewelry Store Smash-and-Grab

Authorities describe a multi-agency operation spanning seven cities that remains active.

Overview

  • Police named the seven suspects, ages 18 to 31, from Pacifica, San Leandro, East Palo Alto, Manteca, San Francisco and South San Francisco.
  • Arrests occurred between Sept. 22 and Oct. 2 in Dublin, Pacifica, San Leandro, San Jose, Manteca and Antioch following weeks of surveillance and warrants.
  • Searches tied to the arrests recovered a firearm, a loaded magazine, multiple rounds of ammunition and large quantities of suspected cocaine.
  • Investigators say more than 10 people took part in the Sept. 5 takeover at Kim Hung Jewelry, where a car was used to breach the storefront, a gun was brandished and the 88-year-old owner was assaulted; the owner is now recovering at home.
  • Detectives are seeking additional participants, some arrestees are linked to other Bay Area jewelry heists in Milpitas and San Ramon, and more than 100 officers and four SWAT teams were involved in the operation.
