Overview

  • A southbound pickup truck carrying three people ran a stop sign at the intersection of North Vassar and Fairgrove roads in Gilford Township, Tuscola County, and T-boned a westbound rented van, killing six Amish passengers and one person in the truck.
  • The transport van carried 10 Amish community members and a paid, non-Amish driver, all of whom were county residents, officials said.
  • About 30 minutes later in Montcalm County, a pickup attempting to pass a horse-drawn buggy struck seven Amish occupants, killing a four-month-old girl and injuring others.
