Serrano Breaks Junior Pan Am 20 Km Walk Record as Mexico Adds Four Distance Medals

  • Karla Ximena Serrano won the women's 20 km race walk in 1:31:40.1, breaking the Junior Pan American Games mark of 1:33:54.16 set by Ecuador's Glenda Morejón in 2021.
  • Mexico went 1–2 with Valeria Flores taking silver in 1:33:21.4, and Colombia's Natalia Pulido earning bronze in 1:35:11.0.
  • Serrano's victory secured a quota place for the Lima 2027 Pan American Games.
  • A day later, Mexican distance runners added two silvers and two bronzes: Mariel Salazar (10,000 m silver), Luz Rocha (10,000 m bronze), Ian Sánchez (5,000 m silver) and Iker Sánchez (5,000 m bronze).
  • The races are being held at the Paraguayan Olympic Committee stadium in Luque, with the men's walk next on the program and Serrano planning to race the 35 km at the World Championships in Tokyo in September.
