Overview
- An ethanol tanker overturned and caught fire late Thursday at km 228 on the Serra das Araras stretch of the Via Dutra, with the blaze controlled early Friday.
- The descent remained fully closed for nearly 22 hours, causing about 32 km of congestion northbound and 12 km southbound, according to CCR RioSP.
- Fuel was safely transferred from the tanker between 4:15 p.m. and 5:10 p.m. Saturday, the vehicle was righted at 6:50 p.m., and Inea technicians conducted on-site environmental assessments.
- Emergency maintenance is underway between kms 233 and 225 with a one-way-at-a-time system, more than 30 machines, and 2,400 tons of asphalt for milling and recomposition.
- Access through the work zone is limited to construction vehicles, local residents, and emergency services at a 20 km/h limit, while the driver remains in intensive care after emergency surgery for severe burns.
