Series of UK Motorway Crashes Disrupt Travel as M62 Reopens After Overnight Closure

Police have reopened the M62 after overnight investigation with a witness appeal underway.

Overview

  • Humberside Police said a blue Vauxhall Corsa struck the central barrier on the M62 westbound between J35 and J34 before a black Volvo V40 collided with the stationary car around 9:45pm Friday.
  • Three people were taken to hospital from the M62 crash, including the Corsa driver with a serious head injury, and the westbound carriageway has now reopened after more than 12 hours.
  • National Highways earlier turned vehicles within the M62 closure and diverted traffic via local roads during accident investigation and clean‑up of debris and an oil spill.
  • On the M6 northbound near Knutsford, a four‑vehicle collision included a car fire that firefighters extinguished; lanes have reopened and one casualty was treated by ambulance crews.
  • A separate crash on the M60 clockwise near the M56 closed all lanes with heavy congestion reported, while officials also dealt with an icy single‑vehicle collision on the M1 and a serious A449 closure in Wolverhampton.
