Overview
- Peru recorded several separate earthquakes on Monday, 22 September, with events confirmed in Ica, Lima, Arequipa, Ucayali and Puno, according to the IGP/CENSIS network.
- The strongest quake measured magnitude 5.3 at 1:47 p.m. near Marcona (Ica), located 39 km south of the district at a depth of 21 km, producing Mercalli intensity III–IV locally.
- A magnitude 3.6 quake struck at 4:52 p.m. with an epicenter 28 km northwest of Chilca (Cañete, Lima) at 49 km depth, and it was felt in districts such as Miraflores, Ate and San Borja, as well as in Callao.
- Earlier, a magnitude 4.0 event was recorded at 11:24 a.m. near Lomas, Caravelí (Arequipa) with a depth of 22 km; its on‑land epicenter did not create tsunami conditions and no damage was reported.
- Civil defense authorities reiterated standard preparedness guidance, urging residents to keep an emergency backpack ready and to follow identified safety zones.
