Series of Motorway Crashes Brings Heavy Delays as Police Probe Fatal M6 Collision

Officials say today’s five-vehicle M6 crash followed a suspected medical episode.

Overview

  • Warwickshire Police and West Midlands Ambulance Service said a suspected medical episode triggered a five-vehicle collision on the M6 southbound near the M6 Toll to junction 3, with a woman treated in serious condition after an off-duty nurse stopped to help.
  • Traffic was initially held and then partially released before all lanes reopened around 12:30 p.m., with National Highways reporting residual delays of about 10 minutes.
  • An earlier M6 southbound crash near junction 11a around 4:46 a.m. involved a car and a van, and paramedics assessed one man who was discharged at the scene before the road fully reopened by 6:47 a.m.
  • Separate incidents on the M6, M62 and M602 produced long queues during the morning rush, including an M6 northbound blockage near Haydock that National Highways later confirmed was a medical emergency cleared by about 8:25 a.m.
  • Police continue to investigate Monday’s fatal M6 northbound crash that killed a lorry driver, with WMAS confirming one of its ambulances was involved, and Nottinghamshire Police arrested a 34-year-old after Tuesday’s eight-vehicle Nuthall Road collision that left two people with life-threatening or life-altering injuries.
