Serge Atlaoui to Leave Prison Today After Two Decades in Detention

A French tribunal’s commutation of his Indonesian death sentence after years of diplomatic efforts paved the way for his conditional parole.

  • After obtaining conditional parole on July 15, Atlaoui will leave Meaux prison today to be greeted by his lawyer Me Richard Sédillot.
  • He was repatriated from Indonesia on February 4 under the Jan. 24 prisoner-transfer agreement between France and Indonesia.
  • In February the Tribunal de Pontoise applied French law to commute his Indonesian death sentence to a 30-year prison term.
