Serbia Arrests 11 Linked to Pig-Head Mosque Deposits and Green-Paint Attacks in France, Germany

Belgrade says a fugitive Serbian trainer directed the network under orders from a foreign intelligence service.

Overview

  • Serbia’s interior ministry announced the detentions, saying the suspects took part in operations that incited hatred targeting Muslim and Jewish sites.
  • Police in Serbia said the group was trained by a Serbian national now on the run who allegedly acted on instructions from an unspecified foreign intelligence service.
  • French investigators reported that nine pig heads were placed outside mosques in Paris and nearby suburbs on September 9, with some marked with the word “MACRON.”
  • The Paris prosecutor said video and witness evidence pointed to two foreign nationals using a vehicle with Serbian plates who left France immediately after the deposits.
  • In a related April case, the Shoah Memorial, several synagogues and a Jewish restaurant in Paris were splashed with green paint, for which three Serbian suspects have already been charged and jailed in France.
