- Monthly retirement, spousal, and survivor benefits will be paid on Wednesday, Sept. 10, Sept. 17, and Sept. 24 based on birthdate groups (1–10, 11–20, and 21–31).
- Recipients who began receiving benefits before May 1997 are scheduled to be paid on Wednesday, Sept. 3.
- September’s Supplemental Security Income was issued Friday, Aug. 29 because Sept. 1 is Labor Day, with maximum monthly amounts of $967 for individuals, $1,450 for couples, and $484 for essential persons.
- The SSA is recovering identified overpayments by withholding up to 50% of monthly benefits after notices sent beginning April 25, and beneficiaries can request reconsideration, a waiver, or a lower repayment rate during the initial period.
- Analysts warn that without congressional action Social Security may be unable to pay full benefits as early as 2034.
