Overview
- Two payment runs are set for Wednesday, Sept. 3 for beneficiaries who started before May 1997 and for retirement, survivor or spousal recipients who also receive SSI.
- Remaining retirement-only payments follow the birth-date schedule: Sept. 10 (birthdays 1–10), Sept. 17 (11–20) and Sept. 24 (21–31).
- September SSI was paid Friday, Aug. 29 because Sept. 1 is Labor Day, which is not a duplicate payment, and the SSA asks recipients to wait three business days before reporting a missing deposit.
- The SSA is recouping identified overpayments after notices began April 25, with withholdings reported up to 50% starting about 90 days later, and beneficiaries can request reconsideration, a waiver or a lower repayment rate.
- Key amounts include 2025 federal SSI maximums of $967 (individual), $1,450 (couple) and $484 (essential person), an average retirement benefit of $2,006.69, and maximum retirement benefits of $2,831 at 62, $4,018 at full retirement age and $5,108 at 70.
