September Price Hikes Hit AMBA Households

Formulaic indexation raises rents, transport fares and service bills, increasing pressure on household budgets and official inflation.

Overview

  • A coordinated set of increases takes effect from September 1 for many AMBA costs, including rents, private health plans, school fees, buses, subte rides, tolls and water.
  • Rents governed by the old rental law will jump 35.52% under the Índice de Contratos de Locación (ICL), while leases indexed quarterly to the CPI face a smaller 6.2% adjustment.
  • Public transport rises include the subte fare to $1,753 and colectivos up about 4.1%–4.7%, while published reports disagree on the AMBA minimum train fare, listing either $450 or $480.
  • Private health plans notified September increases roughly between 1.9% and 3.11%, AySA water will rise 2.37%, and domestic workers’ wages are set to increase 1.8%.
  • Electricity, gas and any change to the liquid fuels tax remain undecided, creating short‑term uncertainty because those decisions could further push consumer prices and feed through to the IPC.
