SEPTA Restores All Morning Regional Rail Express Trips Starting Monday

The shift reflects progress upgrading Silverliner IV cars to meet federal safety requirements.

Overview

  • Starting Monday, 24 morning express trips return on the Paoli/Thorndale, Media/Wawa, Lansdale/Doylestown, Manayunk/Norristown, Wilmington/Newark, and West Trenton lines.
  • SEPTA reports 180 Silverliner IV cars have met federal milestones, with 78 returned to service and those cars performing well.
  • The Federal Railroad Administration ordered inspections after five fires last year, which forced many Silverliner IV cars out of service and led to months of adjusted operations.
  • Commuters are urged to check updated timetables because some trains will once again bypass stations that had been added to local stops since October.
  • Ten leased coaches from Maryland are on site pending crew training, and SEPTA is pursuing a purchase of 20 used cars from Montreal to bolster capacity.
