SEPTA Cancels Regional Rail Trips for Third Day as Silverliner IV Inspections Near Finish

The FRA ordered checks after a series of fires, setting a Friday inspection deadline followed by Dec. 5 for heat-sensing upgrades.

Overview

  • The same 22 trips on the Airport, Fox Chase and Chestnut Hill West lines are canceled again, extending planned cuts into a third consecutive day.
  • SEPTA reports 206 of 223 Silverliner IV cars inspected with 17 remaining, and 73 cars have been returned to service as maintenance items are addressed.
  • No safety-critical issues have been found so far during the inspections, according to a SEPTA spokesperson.
  • Riders are being warned to expect fewer cars per train, crowding, skipped stations near Center City and additional planned or last‑minute cancellations.
  • SEPTA expects Regional Rail disruptions to continue through the end of the year, though service should improve as more cars reenter service.
