SEPTA Cancels More Than 20 Regional Rail Trips Monday as Silverliner IV Inspections Continue

Federal regulators are requiring checks of the 50-year-old cars after a series of fires, with deadlines this month for inspections and interim safeguards.

Overview

  • The cancellations affect the Airport, Fox Chase and Chestnut Hill West lines during the morning peak and later in the day.
  • Morning cancellations include trains 9411, 412, 425, 802, 809 and 814, according to SEPTA.
  • Additional trips slated for cancellation later include 9426, 9435, 436, 449, 9450, 9459, 460, 473, 821, 826, 833, 838, 845, 850, 857 and 862.
  • SEPTA advised riders to expect fewer cars on remaining trains, crowding and possible skipped stops closer to Center City.
  • The FRA set Nov. 14 for completing inspections and Dec. 5 for installing heat-sensing technology as an interim safety measure.
