Overview
- Malaysia and MotoGP signed a five-year renewal that keeps the Malaysian Grand Prix at Sepang from 2027 until 2031 following Cabinet approval on 15 April 2026.
- The agreement was publicly confirmed on July 1, 2026 and preserves the event schedule with the next Sepang race set for Sunday, 1 November 2026.
- Minister of Youth and Sports YB Dr. Mohammed Taufiq Johari framed the deal as a move to strengthen Malaysia’s position as a motorsport destination and to spur economic growth and talent development.
- MotoGP CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta said Malaysia’s strong fanbase and rising economic impact make Sepang a key venue, noting the circuit also hosts the Shakedown and Official pre-season tests and this year’s season launch in Kuala Lumpur.
- Organisers expect the secured calendar spot to protect jobs, support local businesses through race-week tourism and keep Sepang available as a testing hub that helps develop riders, teams and the wider Malaysian motorsport supply chain.
