SEP Launches National Baccalaureate for 5.5 Million Upper-Secondary Students

Graduates will receive dual credentials endorsed by UNAM, IPN, UAM, TecNM.

Overview

  • At an opening ceremony at Conalep Iztapalapa I, officials framed the program as a humanist and revolutionary guarantee of educational rights.
  • Implementation covers 421,113 teachers across 21,101 public bachillerato campuses in all 32 states.
  • Admission in the Mexico City metropolitan area shifts to direct placement with the COMIPEMS exam eliminated, according to the SEP.
  • Students can transfer between subsystems such as Conalep, CBTIS, CETIS and Bachilleres without restarting studies, and will receive a double general–technical certificate.
  • The curriculum adds technical tracks including semiconductors, artificial intelligence, electromobility, nanotechnology and cybersecurity, alongside capacity growth through new schools, campus expansions and secondary-to-bachillerato conversions.
