SEP Establishes Common Curriculum Framework for 17,798 Upper-Secondary Schools

SEP has 225 working days to develop detailed study plans, validation processes, curricular structures needed to operationalize the framework nationwide.

Overview

  • The SEP published Acuerdo 21/08/25 in the Diario Oficial de la Federación to enact the Marco Curricular Común de la Educación Media Superior as the academic backbone of the National Baccalaureate System.
  • The framework mandates a unified curriculum in upper-secondary institutions to standardize instruction and enable study portability.
  • Students will graduate with both a National Baccalaureate certificate and a technical credential endorsed by higher-education institutions.
  • More than 200 technical programs have been updated and 15 new fields — including robotics, AI, semiconductors and digital animation — added to align with labor and strategic development goals.
  • Scientific, humanist, intercultural and gender perspectives are embedded to cultivate critical citizenship and strengthen ties with local communities.
