SEP Confirms Two November Megapuentes for Basic Education

The official calendar clarifies which school suspension days are class breaks and which count as mandatory holidays under Mexican labor law.

Overview

  • The SEP published a calendar that creates two extended long weekends for students: a four-day megapuente from Friday, October 30 through Monday, November 2 and a second megapuente that includes Monday, November 16.
  • The calendar lists five November suspension dates for basic education: Fri. Oct. 30 (CTE), Mon. Nov. 2 (Día de Muertos), Fri. Nov. 13 (administrative/grade reporting), Mon. Nov. 16 (Revolution commemoration), and Fri. Nov. 27 (CTE session).
  • Monday, November 16 is a mandatory rest day under the Ley Federal del Trabajo because the Nov. 20 commemoration is moved to that Monday, and workers who labor that day must receive their normal pay plus double pay for a total of triple pay.
  • November 2 appears as a school suspension for Día de Muertos but is not listed in Article 74 of the Ley Federal del Trabajo as an obligatory rest day, so whether employees get holiday pay depends on employer agreements or local policies.
  • Families, school staff and employers are advised to consult the SEP calendar and workplace contracts to plan childcare, teacher activities and pay obligations because CTE sessions and administrative tasks drive several Friday suspensions that affect schedules.
