Overview

  • Published in the Diario Oficial de la Federación, the national calendar runs from Sept. 1, 2025 to July 15, 2026 and applies to public and private basic-education schools incorporated into the National Education System.
  • Authorities cite Article 74 of the Federal Labor Law to affirm that Sept. 1 is not a mandatory rest day, so states will not postpone the start of classes.
  • Teachers complete late‑August preparation with an intensive course scheduled for Aug. 26–29 before students return.
  • The calendar includes eight Consejo Técnico Escolar Fridays that generate seven long weekends, plus official suspensions such as Sept. 16, Nov. 17, Feb. 2, Mar. 16, May 1, May 5 and May 15.
  • Winter break runs Dec. 22, 2025–Jan. 7, 2026 with classes resuming Jan. 8, and Semana Santa recess is Mar. 30–Apr. 10 with return on Apr. 13, while separate regional calendars like Extremadura’s in Spain start later and are unrelated to SEP schools in Mexico.
