Seoul Registers First Tropical Night as Southern Provinces Face Heat Advisories

Meteorologists warn that hot, humid conditions will persist through early July.

Overview

  • Seoul’s overnight low of 25.6 °C on June 29–30 met the KMA’s criteria for a tropical night, defined by temperatures above 25 °C from 6:01 p.m. to 9 a.m.
  • Gangneung, Daegu and Pohang also recorded tropical nights as persistent southwest winds limited nocturnal cooling.
  • Heat wave advisories cover southern Gyeonggi, Gangwon and Chungcheong provinces along with southern Jeju Island.
  • On Monday, the highest sensible temperatures are expected to reach around 33 °C nationwide with little relief after sunset.
  • Daytime highs of 27–35 °C and overnight lows of 22–26 °C are forecast through Tuesday, remaining above the 30-year average.
